Together is such a powerful word. We believe that together we can do so much more. This month the Haiti Health Network came together in the most incredible ways, many times over. It is in these moments that we are graciously reminded the work we are doing day in and day out is not in vain, but rather holds great purpose and meaning.

We believe the collaborative efforts of the Haiti Heath Network truly are leading to a stronger, more resilient healthcare system which ultimately benefits everyone involved, from healthcare professionals to patients, to communities as a whole. Let us now explore the many ways in which the power of networks shone brightly this month through the Haiti Health Network.

One of our amazing Haiti Health Network members contacted us to say he was flying into Pignon and would like to bring us microscopes. We arranged for our biomed and biomed apprentice to meet him at the small airstrip in Pignon to pick up the microscopes. It’s a joy to see partnerships like this in action. These microscopes will be a great blessing to the medical community!

A few days before the flight was scheduled we received a call from a hospital in the Nord desperately seeking oxygen regulators needed to be able to continue administering oxygen to their patients. Within 20 minutes of receiving the call we had reached out to Ayimed, a medical equipment supplier in Port au Prince, to check their availability and contacted the HHN member who was flying in later that week to see if he could bring in regulators if none were available in country. By the end of the day the connection was made, and regulators were purchased in country. It was a true testament to the power of the Haiti Health Network, not only had we been able to offer a viable solution to an emergency, but we also had a back up plan available.

A few days later another network member reached out to us for advice regarding an urgent need for NICU equipment. We were able to get information to them from both our contact list and from reaching out for recommendations within the HHN WhatsApp group. It was wonderful to see the community come together to try to help another medical facility.

Also this month, in collaboration with Med and Food for Kids, we developed a survey to gather data on Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) usage and potential capacity for increased usage within healthcare facilities. We pray the data we gather will open doors to grow these vitally important programs.

We have also been in contact with Haitian Ministry of Health officials to offer our assistance with some of their current programs related to nutrition. We have received a positive response and are excited to see how further partnerships with the MSPP can bring about positive outcomes.

In additional to all this our incredible team on the ground was hard at work delivering much needed vitamins to 116 healthcare facilities spread out over the Artibonite, Nord and Nord-Est departments. This was only possible through our ongoing partnership with Vitamin Angels. We are so thankful to be able to distribute large quantities of prenatal vitamins, vitamin A, and albendazole to so many of our partners.

In the midst of the ongoing crisis in Haiti there is hope, there is joy and there is unity. The Haiti Health Network has risen to the occasion over and over throughout the crisis. What a blessing it is to see the power of networks at work.
