Oxygen regulators are a crucial component of oxygen delivery systems. They allow for precise, controlled, and efficient administration of oxygen. This piece of equipment is vital for ensuring that patients receive appropriate care. Without functioning oxygen regulators many hospitals in Haiti are unable to administer oxygen. We recently received an urgent call from a hospital in critical need of oxygen regulators. They had oxygen, but were unable to administer it to their patient as they had no one on staff capable of repairing the regulators they had on site.

In response to this all too common problem we have been developing a biomedical technician apprenticeship program over the past year. This month our Biomed, Evenel, spent a day with his apprentice Weederson, training him on the function, repair and reconstruction of oxygen regulators. This apprenticeship program has

been an incredible success since it was launched in June 2023. We hope to expand the biomedical technician apprentice program in the coming months, as we know local capacity building and skills development will reduce equipment downtime and improve healthcare access.
